GFA Winner Kicks Off Guitar Sarasota’s 17th Season 

Lovro Peretić is an internationally award winning classical guitarist from Zagreb, Croatia. Today, he is regarded as one of the leading guitarists of the younger generation, and performs at some of the most prestigious classical music competitions around the world. In 2020, Lovro won the 3rd Eurostrings competition, arguably the most esteemed competition for guitar in Europe, leading to concert performances and teaching master classes in 18 European countries.

Lovro started studying guitar at a young age under the instruction of Professor Xhevdet Sahatxhija in Zagreb. After that, he graduated with distinction at the Music academy in Zagreb instructed by Professor Darko Petrinjak. Lovro also spent a year in a student exchange program at L’École Supérieure Musique et Danse Hauts-de-France in Lille, France,   with prof. Judicaël Perroy. Later, he specialized in music performance in Geneva (Switzerland) where he studied with Judicaël Perroy at the Haute Ecole de Musique Genève. He has been awarded the Dean’s award and Rector’s award of University in Zagreb. Today, he is regarded as one of the leading guitarists of the younger generation, regularly giving concerts and winning numerous awards at some of the most prestigious classical music competitions.

Lovro has performed with and studied under musicians and scholars such as Zoran Dukic, Marcin Dylla, Lorenzo Micheli, Ana Vidović, Paolo Pegoraro, Łukasz Kuropaczewski, Marco Socías and more. He has given concerts all around Croatia and in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, Poland, Spain, Finland, Estonia, Italy, France, Austria, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Hungary and Greece as a soloist and a chamber musician. He has performed and given masterclasses in many of the world’s most prestigious guitar festivals and music concert series, including Paris International Guitar Festival, London International Guitar Festival, Music Festival “Vladimir Spivakov” in Moscow, Zagreb Guitar Festival, Antwerp International Guitar Festival, José Tomás Villa de Petrer International Guitar Festival and many more.

He has won more than 30 prizes in international competitions, including the International Concert Artist competition of GFA (USA), Eurostrings guitar competition, Changsha International Guitar Competition (China), Andres Segovia guitar competition in Velbert (Germany), Anna Amalia guitar competition in Weimar (Germany), Zagreb Guitar Festival (Croatia), Boris Papandopulo music competition in Zagreb (Croatia), Antwerpen Guitar Festival (Belgium), Enrico Mercatali guitar competition in Gorizia (Italy), Fernando Sor guitar competition in Rome (Italy), Volos Guitar Competition (Greece), Concours international de guitare d’Antony (France), Peja International Guitar Festival (Kosovo), Sarajevo International Guitar Festival (B&H), “Paola Ruminelli” international chamber music competition (Italy), Split Guitar Festival (Croatia), Mörski festival kitare (Slovenia), International guitar competition “Porečki tirando”, Brussels International Guitar Competition ”Ilse and Nicolas Alfonso” (Belgium), International guitar competition “Ida Presti” (Croatia).

Last year, he won the International Concert Artist competition of GFA (USA). As the winner, he is touring extensively in 50 concerts throughout USA and Canada this year. Lovro recently recorded his debut album for the recording label Naxos which is being released this year as well.

DREW HENDERSON - CANADA

Drew Henderson enjoys a multifaceted career in the arts as a performer, recording artist, music producer and teacher.

Drew received his musical education at the University of Toronto where he earned a Master of Music degree in 2005 under Dr. Jeffrey McFadden. In 2007, he traveled to Italy to continue his studies with renown guitarists Lorenzo Micheli and Matteo Mela. During this time, Drew was also heavily involved in the competition circuit, being awarded six prizes at international competitions.

After his studies Drew began performing professionally, and has concertized throughout Canada, the U.S., and Italy; bringing a program of both guitar favorites as well as his own unique arrangements. During one of Drew’s concerts, one can expect to hear a mix of evocative Spanish music, introspective Baroque masterpieces, and virtuosic selections from the Romantic era.

In 2018-19, Drew’s performances include solo recitals at the Palazzo Nicolaco in Italy, the Cleveland Institute of Music, a workshop at the University School of Music in Lugano, Switzerland, and a performance of Rodrigo’s famous Concierto de Aranjuez with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra.

Drew also has a very popular classical guitar channel on Youtube, in which he performs and produces all the content himself. On this channel you can watch over 50 performances of works that he has adapted for the guitar by composers such as Bach, Paganini and Schubert; some of which feature an 8-string custom made guitar. Currently, Drew’s channel has more than 50,000 subscribers, and has reached over 12 million views.

As a music producer, Drew is in high demand for both sound engineering and videography. He has worked with some of today’s leading guitarists to create full-length albums and videos. His recordings have appeared on several major labels, including Decca, Sony, Naxos and Analekta. This side of his career has taken Drew all over the globe; from North America, to Europe, and Asia.

Drew plays Canadain made guitars by Martin Blackwell and Jeff Sigurdson of B.C. Canada.

ANA VIDOVIC - CROATIA

Ana Vidovic has taken her place among the elite musicians of the world. She is known for her beautiful tone, precise technique, well-defined phrasing and thoughtful artistry and musicianship.

Ana has won first prizes in the Albert Augustine International Competition in Bath, England, the Fernando Sor competition in Rome, Italy and the Francisco Tarrega competition in Benicasim, Spain. Other top prizes include the Eurovision Competition for Young Artists, Mauro Giuliani competition in Italy, Printemps de la Guitare in Belgium and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York

Her international performances include frequent recitals, concerto engagements and festival appearances in most of Europe’s cultural destinations including Amsterdam, Brussels, Budapest, Copenhagen, London, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Salzburg, Vienna, Warsaw and Zagreb. Her tours have alsotaken her to Australia, Brazil, Israel, Japan, Korea and Mexico. Equally impressive is the fact that she has recorded 6 CDs. Mel Bay Publications hasreleased Ana Vidovic’s DVD entitled “Guitar Artistry in Concert,” a journey through the music of Torroba, Piazzolla and Pierre Bensusan, Sergio Assad,Stanley Myers, Villa-Lobos and Agustin Barrios Mangoré, and “Guitar Virtuoso,” a performance of works by Bach, Torroba, Paganini and Walton.

During recent seasons Ms. Vidovic’s prolific career has taken her to London where she has performed at King’s Place twice and returns in Fall, 2022; inEuropean cities including Bordeaux, Paris, Vienna’s Musikverein, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Avezzano and Pescara (Italy), Aachen, Ansbach, Baden-Baden and Ettlingen (Germany), Japan, Sao Paulo (Brazil), Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney (Australia), Hong Kong, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, in addition to the Canadian cities of Calgary, Edmonton, Kitchener Toronto and Winnipeg, She has performed throughout the U.S. at major performance venues in Austin, Baltimore, Bethesda (The Strathmore), Boston, Champaign, IL (KrannertCenter), Cleveland, Dallas, Dayton, Ft. Worth, Houston, the Hawaiian Islands, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Portland (OR), St. Louis, Salt Lake City,San Francisco, Santa Fe, Seattle, Washington, DC and New York City where Ms. Vidovic has performed in recital at the New York Guitar Seminar at MannesCollege of Music, Baruch College, 92nd St. Y and Le Poisson Rouge. Her dazzling concerto performances have taken place with many orchestras including Asheville Symphony, Bangor Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, Hartford Symphony, Illinois Philharmonic, Knoxville Symphony, Missoula Symphony, Rogue Valley Symphony (Oregon), Orchestra Iowa, West Virginia Symphony, Wheeling Symphony, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra; and with the Slovene Orchestra and Zagreb Philharmonic. Festival appearances include Le Domaine Forget (Quebec), International Guitar Festival (London), Big Sky, Montana, Caramoor Festival (Katonah, NY), Colorado Music Festival and Lake Tahoe Summerfest.

Her 2021-22 season was highlighted by returns to NYC’s 92nd Street Y, as well as in San Francisco, Austin, St. Louis, Philadelphia and San Francisco. She also performed at the Madrid International Guitar Festival, the Mediterranean Guitar Festival in Barcelona and at the New Ross Festival in Wexford, Ireland. In addition to her return to London in Fall 2022, Ms. Vidovic performs at the Drôme Guitar Festival in Valence, France; Trento, Italy, and a tour in Spain. Her USA engagements in 2022-23 include the Asheville Symphony, Austin Symphony, Elgin Symphony, (IL), Reading (PA) Symphony, Victoria (TX) Symphony; recitals in San Francisco, Sarasota, Milwaukee; and overseas in Rome and Aachen, Germany.

In Croatia, the guitarist has performed with the Symphony Orchestra of the Croatian Radio and Television, as well as having been featured in three television documentaries by the eminent Croatian film director Petar Krelja. Ana Vidovic comes from the small town of Karlovac near Zagreb, Croatia, and started playing guitar at the age of 5. At age 7, she gave her first public performance and at the age of 11 she was performing internationally. She became the youngest student at age 13 to attend the prestigious National Musical Academy in Zagreb where she studied with Professor Istvan Romer. Ms. Vidovic’s reputation in Europe led to an invitation to study at the Peabody Conservatory from which she graduated.

ANDREA DE VITIS - ITALY

Andrea De Vitis, from Rome, is acclaimed for the “infinitely varied color palette he creates” (American Record Guide), the “absolute control over the details of the performance” (Silesia prezentuje) and for his “mature interpretations” (Musica) with “profound musicality” (Guitart). 

Andrea has won more than 40 prizes in various international competitions, including Guitar Masters (Poland), Forum Gitarre Wien (Austria), Iserlohn International Guitar Competition (Germany), Certamen“Julian Arcas” de Almerìa (Spain), Budapest International Guitar Competition (Hungary), Gargnano, Gorizia, Pittaluga (Italy) and Guitar Foundation of America (USA); he also received 3 “golden guitar awards” at the International Guitar Convenction in Milan and Alessandria and a special artistic medal from Senate of Italian Republic.

Andrea has performed as a soloist in prestigious concert halls (including Liszt Academy in Budapest, Grand Theatre in Shanghai, Krakow Academy of Music, The Sheen Theatre in New York, Bucarest Academy of Music) and venues around the world (Europe, USA, Mexico, China, Russia). His recitals have been acclaimed by the press and dubbed as “spectacular concert” (Cultura Elche, Spain). He frequently plays with orchestras, and recent highlights include Aukso Kameralna (Poland), Anima Musicae (Hungary), Saint Petersburg State Orchestra (Russia), Orchestra del Conservatorio Santa Cecilia and Orchestra Internazionale di Roma.

Andrea also teaches master classes in prestigious festivals, academies and conservatoires (Maastricht Conservatorium, California State University – Fullerton, Copenhagen Royal Academy, Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart, TU University Dublin, Krakow Academy of Music, Koblenz guitar, Amsterdam Conservatoire, Festival and Italian Conservatoires). He lectures on classical guitar repertoire (Alexandre Tansman’s music for TU University Dublin, Bologna Conservatoire, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and lecture on Homenaje à Debussy by Manuel de Falla together with musicologist Frédéric Zigante).

Andrea is an active recording artist and his albums have received rave reviews in international magazines including Soundboard, Amadeus, Gendai Guitar, Suonare News, Fronimo, and Melomano. Andrea won the Golden guitar award prize “for the best album” in 2016 and 2019 at the prestigious International Guitar Convention of Milan and Alessandria.

In 2019 Naxos Records released his double CD “Alexandre Tansman complete works for guitar,” which includes the world premiere of newly discovered pieces and urtext versions of the other published compositions. Andrea was the first to perform “3 dances in modo polonico” by Alexandre Tansman and to compare all his published works with the original manuscripts. 

“De Vitis carefully reinstates the composer’s original, even the movements considered by Segovia unsuitable for guitar. The result is sublime. His respect for the text of the music continues in his interpretation (American Record Guide), “touching interpretations” (Amadeus, Italy), “a landmark recording” (SeiCorde, Italy), “refined expressivity” (Melomano, Spain), “important achievement for classical guitar world (Gendai Guitar, Japan). 

He also released 2 albums for DotGuitar label: Colloquio with Andrés Segovia (A conversation with Andrés Segovia, 2015), which includes music by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Andrés Segovia, Angelo Gilardino; Ponce and Villa-Lobos (2020), which includes the famous Suite Populaire Brésilienne in its original version (1928).
