About Guitar Sarasota

Our Mission

Guitar Sarasota is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are dedicated to promoting an appreciation of the classical guitar, supporting its study, and bringing the beauty of this instrument and its repertoire to our community.

All proceeds received from donations and ticket sales goes into supporting the concerts and community outreach programs that we provide. Click here to learn more about becoming a sponsor.

Our Programs

International Concert Series

Guitar Sarasota launched its “International Concert Series” in 2006 to bring the artistry of world class classical guitarists from around the globe to the local Sarasota arts scene. Each year our audience has grown steadily. In 2015, following numerous sold-out performances, we moved the series to the Unitarian Universalist Church in Sarasota. Many more sold-out performances later, the increasingly popular International Concert Series moved to its new and current venue, the Riverview Performing Arts Center. Click here for this season’s concert series.

Vera & Imre Hecht Emerging Artist Series

This series features local and regional musicians in concert followed by a question and answer session. Free and open to the public, the series provides an opportunity for emerging artists to perform. It is hoped that these concerts will increase a community-wide awareness and appreciation of the beauty of classical guitar music. Click here for this season’s concert series.

Heart Strings

In 2017, Guitar Sarasota launched “Heart Strings” to provides free musical performances to a wide variety of older adults. This includes individuals residing in local assisted living and memory care facilities, VA hospitals and cancer centers. Over the years this program has been enthusiastically embraced by the Sarasota community both from regional artists who wish to perform and the participating facilities.

Master Classes

As part of our educational mission, Guitar Sarasota has made it possible for local and regional guitar students to attend “Master Classes“ with world class performers. Over the years, students from schools including Booker High School in Sarasota, Southeast High School in Bradenton, State College of Florida, Hillsborough Community College, Stetson University, Florida Gulf Coast University and Miami University have participated in these master classes – free of charge.

Scholarship Awards Program

To assure that the joys of music will be available to future generations, Guitar Sarasota supports an annual scholarship program in conjunction with the music department of the State College of Florida. Scholarships are open to students pursuing a career in music and are based on financial need. Guitar Sarasota is proud to assist these students in fulfilling their dreams and building a future.
